VENTILATOR BONNET WITH KNITTED IN TIES

Needles  3ply use 2.75 (12), 4ply use  3.25 (10)

DK  use  4.00  (8) First 3 sizes only

Make Flap

Cast on 15 sts. Work 2 rows garter stitch.

Row 3. K 7, yarn fwd K2tog, K6.

Work 14 rows garter stitch.

Next 2 Rows. Cast off 2 sts. K to end.

Break yarn and leave on a spare needle.

Main Part

Cast on 80 (88:96:104:112) sts.

Row 1. Knit.

Row 2. Cast on 35sts. Knit to end. 115 (123:131:139:147) sts

Rows 3 & 4. Cast off 35sts. Knit to end 45 (53:61:69:77) sts

Rows 5 to 7. Knit

Row 8. K6, *yarn fwd K2tog, K2. Repeat from * to last 4 sts, K4.

Change to st st, working 4 K sts at each end of all Purl rows work 1 (1:3:3:5) rows.

Divide for flap opening. K17 (21:25:29:33)sts. Cast off 11 sts. K to end.

Working on first set of stitches continue as follows:

1st row: K4, P to last 2 sts, K2

2nd row: Knit

Repeat 1st & 2nd rows 5 times then 1st row again. Break Yarn and leave on needle.

With wrong side facing rejoin yarn to remaining stitches and continue as follows:

1st row: K2, P to last 4 sts, K4

2nd row: K

Repeat 1st and 2nd rows 5 times, then 1st row again.

Next Row. K17 (21:25:29:33), K across 11 stitches of flap, K17 (21:25:29:33) from 1st side. 45 (53:61:69:77) sts.

Next row. K4, P to last 4 sts, K4.

Then work 2 (2:4:4:6) rows in st st keeping 4 st g st border.

Shape Crown

Row 1: K6 (7:7:8:9) sts *K2tog, K5: rep from * to last 4 (4:5:5:5) sts, K2 tog, K2 (2:3:3:3) sts.

Row 2: & all alternate rows P

Row 3: K5 (6:6:7:8) sts *K2tog, K 4: rep from * to last 4 (4:5:5:5) sts, K2tog, K2 (2:3:3:3) sts.

Row 5: K4 (5:5:6:7) sts *K2tog, K3: rep from * to last 4 (4:5:5:5) sts, K2tog, K2 (2:3:3:3) sts.

Row 7: K3 (4:4:5:6) sts *K2tog, K2: rep from * to last 4 (4:5:5:5) sts, K2tog, K2 (2:3:3:3) sts.

Row 9: K2 (3:3:4:5) sts *K2tog, K1: rep from * to last 4 (4:5:5:5) sts, K2tog, K2 (2:3:3:3) sts.

Row 10: P1 (0:1:0:1) sts *P2 tog to end of row. 7 (9:11:12:14) sts.

Break off yarn, run yarn through remaining sts, draw up and fasten off.

Making Up

Join back seam up to g st border using as flat a seam as possible.   Sew button to main part to match button hole in flap.
