CARDIGAN WITH KNITTED-IN BORDERS

You can also knit the cardigan with a knitted-in garter stitch front border by casting on 10 extra stitches and working 5 sts in garter stitch at each end of the rows.  Buttonholes should be worked on the 5th & 17th rows for size 10, the 5th & 25th rows for size 12, or on the 5th, 17th & 29th rows for size 14 as follows; K2, yfwd, K2tog work to end.

Front shaping should be done inside the g st border and at top of fronts when 6 sts remain continue in g st for a further  15 (19:21) rows. Cast off.

You need to cast off sts for the back and sleeve tops.

This version is also nice with a garter stitch bottom welt to match the sleeves and border.

Join sleeve and raglan seams. Join border at centre back neck and stitch around the neck edge.
