Lowery Workstand with SIDE CLAMP
Lowery Workstand with SIDE CLAMP

By working with the Lowery Workstand you help to avoid distortion of fabrics and the uneven tension of threads. Hand frames can be awkward to hold, or become heavy over a period of time and sitting in your favourite chair is not always possible for prolonged periods.

The Lowery Frames are hand made in England and use large easy turn levers to adjust both height and angle. Designed by an engineer for needleworkers, the Lowery Workstand is without doubt one of the very best frames, combining flexibility and functuality to produce an excellent, easy to use product.

There are two styles of basic floor stands available. The most popular style of frame is known as The Lowery Side Clamp, the other the Lowery Corner Clamp. Click Here to see the Lowery Workstand with Side Clamp. The Side Clamp Frame is more suited for hand frames up to and including 27” (68cm). The Corner Clamp style is best for frames larger than 27” (68cm) and more bulky frames such as the plastic tubular styles or the adjustable slate frames.

Both styles of Lowery Workstands come in a choice of two colours, Silver Grey (which is like a brushed Steel) or bright stainless steel. There are slight differences between the two stands with the main difference being that the Stainless Steel version is that little bit more robust, but both work extremely well.

Why a Lowery Workstand?
Before the Lowery frame, the standard Wooden Floor Frame with two supporting legs holding a work frame in the middle was the frame of choice. Whilst in the main a good functional product the problem with this type of frame was that the adjustments were awkward and it really was not easy to sit back in a favourite chair. The Lowery Workstand addresses all these issues, with easy adjust levers which can be used by everyone (even those with weaker hands) and, most importantly, it allows the stitcher to relax in a favourite chair, be it a dining room chair or low slung sofa.

Lowery has managed this by positioning the work frame at the side of the chair allowing the user to sit back, with the back supported, eliminating the need to lean forward and therefore reducing neck ache and back strain. The clamped hand frame is fully supported allowing both hands free to stitch at the most comfortable level allowing you to stitch for longer.

It is very difficult to find another original frame with the fantastic functionality of the Lowery with the ability to securely hold your own frames (no special frames need to be purchased) ranging from the small 4” hoop to the large 27” canvas frame. If needlecraft is your hobby, this frame will take you up a level by providing the comfort you need.

Lighting Your Work Area
You can either use a light that is independent of the workstand or you can buy a light that will fit onto your Lowery. A separate light can be used for other purposes if you wish and also be positioned behind you to reduce shadows over your work. Follow this link Lamps and Magnifiers to look at the ranges of lights we carry that are designed with needleworkers in mind.

Accessories
As you would expect the Lowery Workstand comes with a superb range of add-ons. You can click here to view them. The one that really could make a difference is the magnetic board holder which allows a chart to be positioned in a very convenient position whilst you’re stitching. It’s best to use a magnetic board on the board holder, or a couple of powerful magnets we have them too! Please note that you must make sure you order the accessory in the same colour as your workstand or they will not fit!

Useful Information
With half a turn of a lever, your workstand will swing away when you take a break.

The clamp head can turn right through 360 degrees allowing quick, easy access to the back of your work

The easy turn levers make the workstand fully adjustable up, down and round about. Adjustment: up and down 910-500mm (36"-20") in and out 150-230mm (6"-9").

To summarise with the diagram pictured below:

Side Clamp easily adjustable to any angle and swivels to view the back

'L' adjusting bar allows the height to be adjusted and the frame to move in and out

Lever Screw easy-turn allowing quick and easy alteration to your Workstand

Height adjusting pin the Workstand can be adjusted between 50-91cm or 20"-36" up and down

Base Plate fits under chair, furniture or bed for added stability

Please note that a hand frame is not included.
