An excellent exercise for the aspiring new samplermaker, these late 18th century alphabets from American samplers have been arranged in such a way that the piece can be viewed or hung in any direction. A rectangle at the centre is left open for the stitcher to extract letter forms from the body of the design or fill in their initials and/or date of completion.
