Miniature antique samplers are a rare find. Their purpose is still somewhat mysterious, although some speculate they are made on childish whims to decorate doll houses. From a child's point of view, they might not have seemed all that tiny. This one comes from a private American collection and, like the original, is worked in red silk in cross stitch over one thread, on linsey-woolsey. It is mounted on matching claret-coloured velvet, included with each kit.

Origin and date: England circa 1800

Linen count/finished size: 25 count, linsey-woolsey, 2-1/2"x3". Kit contains fabric, velvet backing, silk thread, needle and instructions.
