A rare find, this 17th century English band sampler graphically depicting a fashionably dressed couple in a time when intensely stitched floral or geometric pattern bands were more the norm. From the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, this sampler is reproduced in the same vivid hues as the original. The beautiful shading in the uppermost flower and in the clothing is achieved by working rows of colour in very fine tent stitch over one thread of linen.
