The motto in the upper part of this sampler reads

This is to let you see
The care my parents took of me
When land is gone and money spent
Learning is most excelent

The misspelling suggests the stitcher might have been quite young. The unfinished elements in the lower panel also suggest this might have been one of the first pieces of needlework the stitcher had tried to undertake.

In creating the kit, the designer has completed the outer border, in order to make a more attractive overall design. The unfinished elements have been left, and the rather unusual repeated initials for the sake of authenticity. The motto has also become damaged over time, but is easy to recreate because both elements are commonly found on samplers.
