Gustav Klimt (July 14, 1862 – February 6, 1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. His major works include paintings, murals, sketches, and other art objects. Klimt's primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism.
This piece is of a portion of a panel from the Stoclet Frieze of an embracing couple representing Fulfillment. Behind them are the curling branches of the Tree of Life. They are wrapped in robes patterned with ovals, fish, birds, mosaics, eyes, and flowers. The chart of the full panel is also available. (Art Noveau, 1905-9)
