Sainta Agatha by Unknown

Cross stitch chart or kit from the Scarlet Quince Religious Fine Art Collection.

Saint Agatha of Sicily (died traditionally 251) is a Christian saint. Her memorial is on 5 February. Agatha was born at Catania, Sicily, and she was martyred in approximately 251. She is one of seven women, excluding the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorated by name in the Canon of the Mass.

Saint Agatha, based on a Greek Orthodox icon. The Greek text, transliterated, says Hagia Agatha (Saint Agatha). Agatha was desired by the Praetor of Sicily, but she refused him and was arrested as a Christian and endured many trials and torture, including having her breasts cut off.

The background is not stitched. This piece is shown on gold fabric similar to the original icon, but any colour may be used.

Approx: 11" x 15" or 27 x 38cm - when worked on 18ct.
