An Interesting Book by Seymour Joseph Guy
Cross stitch chart or kit from the Scarlet Quince 1830 - 1900 Fine Art Collection.
Seymour Joseph Guy (Greenwich, London, 1824 - New York City, 1910) was born and raised in England where he received his formal art training before emigrating to New York City in 1854. He worked in the Tenth Street Studio Building and was a studio neighbour of John George Brown who influenced his work. Many of Guy's scenes were children in interiors and were expressions of his interest in the education of children. His paintings have smooth, lacquered finishes because of his careful glazing process that he learned in England. He was also skillful with hidden light.
Approx: 16" x 13" or 40 x 33cm - when worked on 18ct.
